ABOUT ME

Thoughtful, curious, collaborative

I'm Sonal, currently a freelance designer and illustrator based in Oakland. I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in Communication Design and Photography in 2014. I dream of one day opening a dumpling shop where dumplings from every culture can live in harmony under one roof. Until then, you can find me creating meaningful, human, and approachable narratives with design, dreaming up new woodworking projects, and knitting sweaters for my dog that he reluctantly wears. I like to take on a variety of projects from product to visual design so reach out if you think there’s a good fit!

MY APPROACH

I like to take a comprehensive approach to design, incorporating research, creative strategy, and visual design.

I have a background in both Product Design and Visual Design, and I love switching between the two as I find they influence each other and are ultimately part of the same system.

I've worked with a lot of smaller teams and projects in their earlier stages, so I'm comfortable navigating ambiguity and helping focus big ideas.

I would especially love to work with purpose-driven organizations in the education, environmental, health, human rights, and animal wellfare sectors.
